This step-by-step guide will walk instructors through how to change the following course images: the banner image and a module’s image. Recommended sizes for these images will also be provided in this guide.

📘 Changing the Banner Image on the Course Homepage Instructions

Brightspace allows you to select an image from their library of stock images for your course banner image, or you can upload your own image. The image selected for the course banner appears on the course homepage, My Courses widget, and the Brightspace Pulse app. We encourage you to choose an image that you prefer, and also to choose a different image for each course to minimize confusion between different sections of the same course.

When uploading an image file, its display size should be 2400 x 960 pixels and not contain any text for best results. Since Brightspace automatically crops the image to fit the size of the course banner, the course banner image itself will be 1170 x 200 pixels once uploading is complete. Your image must also be in .jpg, .jpeg, .png, or .gif format.

Uploading an image of 2400 x 960 pixels is recommended to allow for the best appearance in the various places this image is used (the course homepage, My Courses widget, and the Brightspace Pulse app) so that they are resized properly in Brightspace and maintain the highest quality. You can change this banner at any time.

Here are a few websites that have copyright free images you can download to use within your course: Pexels, Freepik, Pixabay, Unsplash.

To change a course banner image:

1. On the course homepage, hover over your current course banner image until you see the three-dot menu appear in the upper right corner of the banner. Click on the three-dot menu, then select Change Image.

2. If you want to select an image from Brightspace’s Course Image Library, you can scroll through the images or type in a keyword that represents your course to see what images are available. Hover over the image you want to use and click Use this image to add it as your course banner.

3. If you would rather upload your own image instead, click Upload, then click My Computer.

4. Click Upload again, then select the image from your computer, then click Add.

5. You should now see your course banner image has changed to the new image you selected. If you don’t see your new image right away, refresh the page and wait a few minutes for this change to appear.

📘 Changing a Module’s Image Within A Course Instructions

By default, your course banner image will preload as the image for each module you create within your course.

To change a module’s image, you will need to edit the module’s description field.

The size of the module image needs to be 768 x 400 pixels to display correctly. You must resize your image to be this size before uploading, because Brightspace does not automatically crop and resize module images. This image must also be in .jpg, .jpeg, .png, or .gif format.
