Description

The Graphic Artist’s primary responsibility is to conceptualize, design, and produce instructional print materials for teaching faculty to support teaching, research, and publications.  Work consists of designing charts, graphs, flyers, posters, poster presentations, exhibits, signage, and dry mounting.

  • Conceptualize: The primary goal of the Graphic Designer is to convey information attractively

  • and develop successful design solutions in a manner that is easily understood by the target audience.  Design concepts will communicate detailed knowledge and skills of current graphic design practices while promoting faculty teaching and research (in and out of the classroom).

  • Design: Design projects will demonstrate excellence in typography, color theory, layout, and creativity to produce effective design solutions.

  • Production Process: Printing of digital files will be limited to low volumes employing standard printing/materials.

Technical Services

  • Relevant Macintosh software programs will be used to develop and produce high quality, cost effective, designs that can be produced on time and within budget. Large format color printing on HP Designjet T520, as well as, traditional 11”x17” poster printing on an Epson Stylus Pro 4900 is available.

  • Dry Mounting on foam core or poster board may be requested.

  • Laminating is limited to work that is created and produced by the Graphic Artist.

Requirements

ITS Graphic Services are specifically geared to Teaching Faculty who are teaching or conducting research.

The following is a list of project development stages:

  • An initial meeting must be scheduled to discuss print options, design expectations, and cost estimate. Plan ahead to ensure the project time frame and deadlines are realistic.

  • Supply written content and provide photographs and graphics.

  • Ensure alignment of design with University policies.

  • Review proofs and give final approval.

  • Approve on and/or off-campus printing services.

  • Receive delivered materials to customer specifications.

Rates / Cost of Use

  • High volume printing and production of materials will require the assistance of external vendors.  Rates will be determined in conjunction with the external vendors utilized.

  • For unique projects that require specialized materials, the procurement of supplies is the responsibility of the requestor.
