About EIT Accessibility
SUNY colleges and universities increasingly utilize technology to facilitate everything from recruitment to instruction. Consistent with its long-standing commitment to diversity and inclusion, SUNY recognizes the growing responsibilities associated with this reliance on technology to assure that individuals with disabilities and individuals who are temporarily disabled have equitable access to electronic information resources. From purchasing and creating digital content to software, the focus is rightly placed on universal design, allowing all individuals to engage.
What is Title II of the ADA?
ADA Title II is designed to ensure that state and local government services, including public higher education institutions, are accessible to people with disabilities. This means all digital content must be designed so that everyone can access them regardless of ability, disability, or use of assistive technology.
Who is affected?
Every member of the SUNY Fredonia community has a role to play in the implementation of the ADA Updates.
Each unit must ensure that digital materials meet the minimum accessibility requirements as required by ADA Title II. This includes making sure that websites, apps, online content, digital documents, presentations, and online learning materials are accessible.
What is the technical standard that digital materials must meet?
The new Title II rules require a minimum compliance of WCAG 2.1 Level A and AA standards.
When is compliance required?
SUNY Fredonia’s deadline for compliance is April 24, 2026. The campus must show that it is providing due diligence to meet the compliance requirements.
Who is responsible for addressing the compliance requirements?
It is the responsibility of all faculty, staff, and students to ensure that SUNY Fredonia meets the compliance requirements of Title II by creating digital and web content that adheres to WCAG 2.1 Level A and AA standards.
How is Fredonia Coordinating Title II Requirements?
The Digital and Web Accessibility Advisory Committee has been formed to help steer Fredonia’s commitment to accessibility and compliance. The committee will share communications through various channels for training and support.
