Office of Online Learning
Services:
Online Learning assists instructors in remediating course syllabi and other course documents in a one-on-one capacity, typically by appointment. This support is available for any instructor, regardless of course modality.
Accessibility training, including how to remediate course documents, and how to use Ally occurs inside our Build Your Own Course (BYOC) course. Instructors who wish to teach online and build an online course are required to complete the four week, facilitated course.
Intro to FREDLearn training is offered via Microsoft Teams several times per semester, and participants learn about Ally, and how to get started using it. Participants can register for any of our FREDLearn workshops via the Online Learning Calendar.
Phone Number: (716) 673-3649
Users can submit an email to request an appointment or ask a FREDLearn question.
Reed Library
Services:
Reed Library collaborates with the Office of Online Learning to provide support to faculty members who need accessible versions of course reading materials for their online courses.
When faculty members provide a PDF of an article or book chapter for use in their courses, Reed Library begins by verifying whether the material is already available through the university’s licensed library databases. When an accessible version exists, a permalink is provided that faculty can place directly in their FREDLearn course.
If Reed Library does not have an accessible version available through a licensed database, Reed Library will try to make the shared PDF accessible. If the shared PDF is not high-quality, they will request the article or book chapter through Interlibrary Loan (ILL) and use it to provide an accessible version. If they think they will receive a poor-quality PDF of a book chapter, they will request a copy of the physical item through ILL to create an accessible version.
Requests are handled on a case-by-case basis for providing accessible versions of course reading materials. Faculty members can schedule an Individual Research Appointment to review and identify the best approach to making their materials accessible.
Reed Library is currently offering help with Microsoft to students on an "as needed basis" through scheduled appointments and at the reference desk. Reed Library will begin offering more formal training sessions this semester.
