Adding a Turnitin Assignment in FREDLearn
How do I add a Turnitin drop box to collect digital content from my students?
Step-by-step guide
Turnitin drop boxes in FREDLearn are called Turnitin Assignments. Turnitin Assignments can collect any digital content from students in a course. They include Turnitin plagiarism detection software to rate the originality of student submissions.
Adding a Turnitin Assignment
- Navigate to the Existing Activities menu, press the drop down arrow and select Turnitin-FRE.
- The Add Activity window opens.
- If this is your first time creating a Turnitin Assignment in FREDLearn, you'll be asked to review the End User License Agreement and press the Accept button.
Configuring Assignment Settings
The steps below outline the sections needed to configure an assignment:
- Enter the Title of the Assignment.
- If you wish to include instructions at the top of the assignment, add these instructions to the Instructions field.
- In the Scheduling field, Set the “Start Date” and “Due Date” to represent the assignment timeline.
- Enter the Feedback release date which determines when assignment feedback will be available.
Grading and Feedback
- The default is "100". Adjust points as needed to reflect the applicable max points.
- If you have previously created a rubric, press "Attach Rubric" to view and select a rubric.
- If you haven't yet created a rubric, press "Attach Rubric" and on the next screen press "Create Rubric".
Submission Settings
- Check the box next to the settings that apply to your assignment: Allow late submissions, Allow resubmissions until the due date, and/or Allow unsupported file types.
Report Settings
Prior to pressing the Create Assignment button, configure your Report Settings.
- Navigate to the Report Settings tab.
The default setting for Store submissions for comparison is General Turnitin repository.
- The default setting for Generate report is At time of submission.
- For Compare Submissions, the default includes: General Turnitin repository, Internet content, & Periodicals, journals and publications.
- For Report Access, the default setting is Allow students to view Similarity Reports.
- Choose Exclusions (if any).
- Press Create Assignment.
Grading a Turnitin Assignment
To review and grade a Turnitin Assignment, navigate to the module that contains the assignment.
- Click on the Turnitin Assignment title.
- Locate the submission you wish to grade, and press the pencil icon.
- On the next screen, you'll have the option to assign a grade and leave Feedback, both QuickMarks and a Summary.
