How to Transfer Content from Panopto to Microsoft Stream

  1. How do I download Panopto files to my computer?

    1. Open Panopto in a web browser

    2. In the left-hand column, select Browse and then click on My Folder

    3. Hover your mouse over the video that you want to transfer and click on the gear/settings icon.

    4. In the left-hand column, click on Outputs section.

    5. Under the Video Podcast, in the Type drop-down menu, you will see the different download options.

    6. Select the option you want and click Apply.

    7. Click Download to save the file to your computer in the folder you created.

    8. Find and click on the Captions tab.

    9. Click the drop-down arrow and select your preferred language.

    10. Click Download file and save the captions file.

    11. If your video does not have a caption file, proceed to uploading your video file to Microsoft Stream.

  2. How do I convert caption files?

    1. Use a converter such as GoTranscript Subtitle Converter that can convert a TXT file to VTT format.

    2. Click Upload to add your TXT file to the converter.

    3. Select the WebVTT(.vtt) format.

    4. Click on the Convert button.

  3. How do I upload files to Microsoft Stream?

    1. Open Microsoft Stream and click the Upload button in the open box.

    2. Select the file and click Open.

    3. Click Upload.

    4. After the file has uploaded, click Open.

    5. Click on Video settings, and then click on the Transcript and captions.

    6. Click on the drop-down arrow next to Transcript and captions.

    7. Click on the Upload button, set the captions to English, and click on Select File.

    8. Select the VTT file and click Done.

    9. If you do not have a caption file, Stream will automatically generate captions. Review the captions and edit them if needed.

  4. How do I share files in Microsoft Stream?

    1. Open the video you want to share.

    2. Click on the Share button in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.

    3. Click on Share.

    4. Click on the gear icon/link settings.

    5. Select People in fredonia.edu.

    6. Click Apply.

    7. Click Copy link and use the link to replace any old links to the video.
