Grackle is an accessibility tool for Google Docs and Sheets. Grackle can be used to check documents for accessibility and provide tips on how to make content more accessible. Grackle is licensed and available to all Fredonia faculty, staff, and students.

Grackle can be installed within Google Docs and Sheets individually from the Google Workspace Marketplace.

NOTE: Grackle is ONLY available for Google Docs and Sheets and NOT Slides.

Installing Grackle in Google Docs and Sheets:

NOTE: Grackle must be installed in Google Docs and Sheets individually. Grackle Docs for Google Docs and Grackle Sheets for Google Sheets. The instructions below are the same for installing on both apps.

  1. Open Google Docs or Sheets

  2. At the top of the screen in the Menu bar, select “Extensions” menu, then “Add-ons” and “Get add-ons”.

  3. In the Google Workspace Marketplace window, search for “Grackle Docs” (for Google Docs) or “Grackle Sheets” (for Google Sheets)

  4. Once complete, under “Extensions” menu, Grackle Docs or Sheets will be at the bottom of the menu.

Using Grackle in Google Docs and Sheets:

When using Grackle, select “Launch” under the Grackle Docs add-on menu.
